a Synopsis:
The Second Shepherds Play,
3 Shepards relate their complaints:
– One feels enslaved by those he works for.

A local Thief visits the Shepherds. They insult each other, but then make up.
Night comes and the Shepherds invite the Thief to lie down and sleep with them.
While the Shepherds sleep, the Thief steals one of their sheep and takes it home to his wife. Knowing the Shepherds will suspect them, they devise a plan to hide the sheep.
The Thief returns to the sleeping Shepherds and pretends to be asleep.
The Shepherds wake up.
They wake up the Thief.
The Thief returns to his wife.
The Shepherds split up: Two go to a local tavern. One goes to check on their sheep.
The Thief and his wife prepare for the anticipated arrival of the Shepherds.
The Shepherds discover the loss of their sheep and go to the Thief’s house to confront him.
The Shepherds can’t find their sheep.
They leave the Thief’s house, but one goes back to give their new-born ‘baby’ a present.
He discovers the wife is cradling their stolen sheep and calls the other Shepherds.
The Shepherds threaten to punish the Thief, but then decide to leave.
An Angel appears to the Shepherds and tells them of the birth of a Savior.
The Angel tells them to go visit the newborn babe.
They return to the Thief’s house and give the Baby gifts. They sing a song of celebration!
