For the very first time in its 25-year history of serving Central Vermont and its 22-year residency at Montpelier City Hall Arts Center, Lost Nation Theater will be asking the voters of the City of Montpelier for direct financial support.
Some of you may be very surprised by that fact.
You may believe LNT already receives cash support from the City. But that is not the case.
LNT receives rent-free use of the Auditorium in exchange for custodial care, maintenance, and facilitating the use of the Auditorium for other groups. The cash value of LNT’s custodial care of the Auditorium is approximately $20,000 each year. Plus, in its tenure, LNT has secured over $100,000 in grants for improvements to the Auditorium that benefit all of its users.
But now we are coming to you for Help to support our Youth programs so that we can meet an increasing need for services.
These programs include:
- a Winter Youth Theater Lab
- two “Theater for Kids by Kids” productions
- full-day options for our week-long Theater Lab day camps in the summer
- the development of an LNT Young Company
- a new workshop series for Kingergarten-2nd graders
And of course, LNT wishes to continue to offer scholarship assistance so that financial concerns don’t prevent a child from participating in education opportunities at LNT.
These programs are in addition to LNT’s Head-start Arts programs, high school workshops, professional theater training program (for ages 17 & up), mentorships & apprenticeships, and master-classes.
Lost Nation Theater is very proud of its recent designation as One of the Best Regional Theaters in America by the NYC Drama League (and our many other commendations & awards). But we are most proud of being a professional theater that is deeply committed to, and rooted in, its community.
So we ask for your support of LNT’s $3,500 request as a ballot item on Town Meeting Day.
(This request adds less than an hundredth of a penny onto the tax-rate; or, an extra $2 in your annual taxes if your house is valued at $250,000.)
If you don’t live in Montpelier – encourage your friends that do to VOTE YES! for Lost Nation Theater. If you do live in Montpelier, we hope you will VOTE YES! and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.
In the meantime, Thank You for all the support you’ve given Lost Nation Theater over the years!
“see you at the theater!”
